Hello, I’m wire artist Ruth Jensen. Have fun browsing my galleries (top left, under “WIREWORKS”), and thanks for visiting. If you’ve got questions or are interested in commissioning a piece, just email me using the link below.
I discovered wire in 2006 when surgery left me flat on my back for a couple of months, and I was unable to pursue carving and painting. Wire quickly became my favorite medium because of its suppleness and strength; I found myself creating birds, animals, people… I opened my etsy shop, https://www.etsy.com/shop/sparkflight, to solve the problem of creature buildup. A couple of years later, I began to think of jewelry as wearable sculpture, and started using wire for beautiful necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. Conversely, I now think of 3D sculpture as “home jewelry.”
Today, my life-size “Coffee Man” is in the Etsy Collection, my five foot pig “Porcus Aurelius” resides in the Phoenix airport, and my small wire birds have adorned Harry Winston jewelry store windows throughout the world. My work is in private collections in twelve countries.
My studio is called Sparkflight in memory of the name my son Tyler chose for his new business just before his death at the age of 24. I have three other terrific adult sons and a marvelous husband; without their input and support, nothing much would happen.
